1. Your first two ideas are traps
The first answer that pops into your head is the most common answer. The second one — the one that feels clever — is what everyone who avoided the first answer picks. Aim for idea number three or four.
2. Zoom in on a sub-category
“Name an insect” → think “beetles” → “Hercules beetle”. Narrowing the category first makes rare answers come much faster than scanning the whole list.
3. Use the alphabet
Run through less-used letters — K, Q, V, X, Z. “Name a dog breed” with K gives you Komondor, Kooikerhondje or Keeshond.
4. Think geographically
Most players answer from an American or British point of view. Desserts, cheeses, breakfasts and landmarks from other countries are often nearly untouched.
5. Lean on what you know best
Musicians know obscure instruments, cooks know obscure pastas, gamers know obscure board games. Your specialist knowledge is your edge.
6. Never leave it blank
A timeout scores zero, while even the most popular valid answer earns a few points. If the clock is under five seconds, type something safe.
